The Lottery Winners are an indie pop band from Leigh, Greater Manchester, England. The band was formed in 2008 by Thom Rylance (vocals/guitar), Robert Lally (guitar/vocals), Katie Lloyd (bass/vocals), and Joe Singleton (drums).
After a highly promising rise in the UK indie scene the band released their eponymously titled debut album in March 2020 - and a week later the world went into lockdown with the breakout of the Covid19 pandemic. Not to be undone, they doubled down and set about writing and experimenting with ideas. One led to a sea-shanty cover of Nickleback's worldwide hit 'Rockstar' which went viral and attracted the attention of the Canadian rock band who loved the interpretation and asked to release an official version. With that shot in the arm and the covid restrictions easing, albums two ('Start Again') and three ('Something To Leave The House For') came quickly and set the band up for a heavy touring schedule.
2023 saw the band score a huge breakthrough and hit #1 on the Official UK Albums Chart with the release of 'Anxiety Replacement Therapy', which included collaborations with Shaun Ryder, Boy George and Frank Turner, while live the band opened for the likes of Rick Astley, Tom Jones, Liam Gallagher, Noel Gallagher, Shed Seven, Avril Lavine and Nickelback on the European leg of their 2024 world tour.
In September 2024, the band announced the follow up album 'KOKO' will be released on February 21st 2025 and will feature songs with Reverend & The Makers, Shed Seven and Nickelback.
On his songwriting, Thom says; "The songs are the most important thing in the world to me. If they’re ever even a tiny fraction as important to other people as they are to me, I’ll die a very happy man.
I grew up listening to a lot of eighties bands, bands like Aztec Camera, Orange Juice, Bowie, Blondie, Tears for Fears and New Order, but the ones that were always particularly close to my heart were The Smiths, The Cure and Joy Division - you know, all of the painfully miserable ones. But, if I have to be entirely honest, the reason I wanted to be on stage, that was Freddie Mercury’s fault’.
